Athlete of the Week

MADISON – Jacob Guthrie doesn’t mind sliding in the mud to make a catch in baseball or slamming down on the ice during a hockey game.

Jacob plays baseball for the Madison Mad Dogs as a first baseman and pitcher. He also plays hockey for the North Alabama Hockey Association’s (NAHA) Navy House League team as a center.

“Jacob’s favorite sport is whichever one is in season because he has loved playing both baseball and hockey since he was four years old,” his mother Shawna Guthrie said. She is a stay-at-home mom, while Jacob’s father, Mike Guthrie, works for Marshall Space Flight Center.

Jacob is in seventh grade at Liberty Middle School. Recently, he joined the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

He has two sisters. Cailyn is a junior at James Clemens High School. His sister Emma is in third grade at Madison Elementary School.
