MADISON –This is the time of year every high school football player, coach and fan seeks.
And this season is no different – especially with a couple of local schools coming off region championships.
Class 7A James Clemens ran through its Region 4 schedule unbeaten, capped by a resounding 36-23 win over Austin on Oct. 26 to wrap up the region. The Jets host Hewitt Trussville on Friday.
Madison Academy, in its first year in Class 5A, was a perfect 7-0 in Region 8. The Mustangs will take on Alexandria on Friday at Madison Academy.
Bob Jones finished fourth in Class 7A Region 4. The Patriots travel to Hoover to take on the Bucs on Friday.
The Jets, coming off a tough 20-17 loss at Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa have formidable opponent in Hewitt-Trussville, according to Head Coach Wade Waldrop.
“Hewitt is a lot like Thompson, our opening game of the year,” Waldrop said. “They are very explosive on offense.”
Hewitt-Trussville is 7-3 overall and 5-2 in Region 3.
“They are loaded with talented players,” Waldrop said. “Six players on their offense are SEC commits or recruits.
“It will take a complete game in all three phases to be successful.”
Mustangs’ Head Coach Grant Reynolds said his squad is excited to be in the playoffs but will also be cautious about Alexandria, who are from Region 6.
“We’re looking forward to the playoffs,” Reynolds said. “We have to prepare for three different offenses.
“We have to be on our toes.”
