MADISON, HUNTSVILLE — Local churches are working together to sponsor WinShape Camps, and registration opens this month.

“We’ll kick off camp registration the last week of February,” Sara Couch said. She is children’s ministry director at The Brook, 8573 U.S. 72 W.

Jim Graham, children’s pastor at Wall Highway Baptist Church, 6655 Wall Triana, defines WinShape Camps for Communities as day camps with “a professionally trained staff to create the most fun and meaningful experience” for children who have completed grades 1-6.

“WinShape Camps for Communities partners with local churches and Chick-fil-A operators to provide an exciting camp experience right in campers’ own community,” Graham said.

In 1985, Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy organized WinShape Camps for children to have fun, adventure, nurture friendships and build a closer relationship with God (winshapecamps.org).

In Madison, Asbury United Methodist Church, 980 Hughes Road also is sponsoring the camp with The Brook and Wall Highway Baptist. “We are continuing to seek more partners for this event,” Graham said.

Huntsville locations involved with the effort are Whitesburg Baptist Church, Willowbrook Baptist Church, Alders Gate UMC, Mountainview Baptist Church, Southside Baptist Church and Flint River Baptist Church.

“Whether kids like soccer or science, there’s something for everyone,” Graham said. “WinShape Camps combine sports, recreation, arts, Bible study and worship into one unforgettable week.” The cost is $189. Discounts are available, and families can apply for scholarships.

Children are challenged “to sharpen their character, grow in their relationships and deepen their Christian faith,” Graham said.

The camp in Madison will be held on July 22-26. The Huntsville camp’s dates are July 15-19.

Registration will open on Feb. 24. To register, visit winshapecamps.org. Special discounts apply from Feb. 24 through March 3. The sibling discount is 10 percent.
