Cole serves on the USS Bonhomme Richard

SASEBO, JAPAN – A sailor from Madison is serving his country on the seas of the Orient.

Jonathan Cole, Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class, is stationed on the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), which is classified as an amphibious assault ship.

Cole and the crew of USS Bonhomme Richard are forward-deployed to Sasebo, Japan to conduct a Readiness for Sea assessment ahead of a regularly scheduled patrol in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.

As part of his duties, Cole occasionally records time-in-water for a man overboard during a drill on the bridge, along with making announcements over the ship’s general announcing system or 1MC. The USS Bonhomme Richard is serving forward to provide a rapid-response capability in the event of a regional contingency or natural disaster.

“We at the Navy Office of Community Outreach travel the globe to collect sailors’ stories and photos for distribution to hometowns,” PO3 Theodore Quintana said. Quintana works in Media Production Support.

The address for the Navy Office of Community Outreach is 5722 Integrity Drive, Bldg. 456-3, Millington, TN 38054.
