LONDON – After sightseeing in London this week, James Clemens High School Band will perform in concert on Dec. 30 in Cadogan Hall, home of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Jets Band Director Keith Anderson posted a photograph on his Facebook page of the young musicians during a rehearsal earlier this week.
In addition, Anderson posted a link to the live stream of concerts by bands throughout the day and evening at Cadogan Hall. James Clemens Band will perform on the evening of Dec. 30. To view the concert, visit clients.mediaondemand.net/cadoganhall/indexbig.aspx (may not work on mobile devices).
Cadogan Hall first opened in 1907 as a church. The building fell in disrepair during the 1990s. The Cadogan Estate bought the property in 2000 and restored the structure as a concert hall, which the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has established as its permanent base in London.
Anderson, Assistant Director Stuart Tankesley and chaperones accompanied the band on Dec. 27 by chartered buses from campus to Atlanta for their flight to London.
The Jets Band will march in London’s New Year’s Day Parade, one of the world’s largest street parades in London streets on Jan. 1, 2017. The Jets’ performances mark the first time that a high school band from Madison has traveled internationally for an appearance.
James Clemens students will march along the 2.2-mile parade route past some of the world’s most iconic historic landmarks. They will be joined in the parade, which will be televised live to a potential audience of more than 330 million, by 8,000-plus participants from numerous nations.
More than 550,000 spectators are expected to line the streets of London on Jan. 1 to welcome in the New Year and watch one of the world’s great street spectaculars.
