Arbor Day tree planting at Dublin Park

The Madison Beautification and Tree Board planted 10 trees at Dublin Park Tuesday, Nov. 8 , in honor of Arbor Day.

Three Winged Elms and seven Chinese Elms were planted around the soccer fields at Dublin, with the hope being in a few years that they would provide much needed shade for soccer parents and players.

Joe Hackett, a member of the Board, donated the trees for the planting.  According to Carol Umstaedter, vice president of the Tree Board, even though Arbor Day is in late February, tree planting is done in the fall to take advantage of the optimal planting time.  Trees do much better when they can be planted in late fall-they are able to put roots down and be more prepared for the harsher winter conditions.

Mayor Paul Finley, along with Councilwoman Ronica Ondocsin, Beautification and Tree Board liaison and Councilman Tim Holcomb assisted with the planting.  The Board hopes that the city and its residents will be able to enjoy these trees for years to come.
