Katie Crocker’s artwork wins Madison Hospital’s Art Contest

MADISON – Now that the voting has ended, Katie Crocker has emerged as the most impressive artist in the Madison Hospital Art Contest, one component in the MyHospital campaign to commemorate the hospital’s tenth anniversary.

“Madison City Schools students in grades 6, 7 and 8 were encouraged to visually portray how the hospital has helped their friends, family and community. We were blown away by their artistic talents and creativity,” Madison Hospital President Mary Lynne Wright said.

Katie, who’s in sixth grade at Discovery Middle School, was motivated to enter the contest for surprising reasons. “I simply drew this because I was down in the dumps. A teacher, very close to me who has always encouraged my creativity, recommended that I participate in the competition. This caused my mood to improve,” Katie said.

“While I brainstormed (about my artwork), a new section of my brain opened up. I felt that Polaroid pictures were a good way to represent all the different ways the hospital has contributed to our community. Each one is as important as the next,” Katie said.

Katie’s winning artwork will be on exhibit in Madison Hospital until the end of 2022, a milestone year for the facility.

Youth who entered the art contest were required to complete their drawings or paintings on paper or cardstock measuring 8.5 by 11 inches. Art classes and individual students entered the contest.

“The goal was to raise awareness about the hospital’s milestone celebration and to provide a fun way for our schools and students to get involved,” Katie Coppens said. Coppens works as Communications Director for Huntsville Hospital Foundation.

In other activity with the MyHospital campaign, Huntsville Hospital Foundation is pursuing fundraisers and selling bricks in the Madison Hospital Healing Garden. In addition, funds will help to upgrade and equip the Madison Hospital Nursery to better treat babies who need a more intensive level of care.

Huntsville Hospital Foundation inspires philanthropic partners to invest in medical technology and programs that advance Huntsville Hospital’s mission to improve the health of those we serve. For more information, visit huntsvillehospitalfoundation.org.
