Hammad Memon captured by Dallas police

Police in Dallas, Texas have Hammad Memon in custody just hours after a Madison County judge revoked his bond in his murder case.

Hammad Memon

At a news conference Friday night at Madison Police Headquarters, Madison County Assistant District Attorney Tim Gann said that with outstanding police work and the help of the F.B.I., authorities were able to locate Hammad’s mother, Safia Memon’s cell phone signal.

Gann said Memon and his mother were located after a cellphone company pinged their cell phone to within 100 feet of their location, helping to locate them on a sidewalk in Dallas.

Both ran and were captured after a short chase.  Police said Memon ran into a business and tried to hide in a restroom before he was captured.

Prosecutors say both were found in possession of Pakistani passports and a significant amount of cash.

The nationwide manhunt for Memon started after the Madison County District Attorney’s office got word that Memon’s mother received a package in the mail Thursday from Pakistan’s Embassy which appeared to contain a passport.

Memon has a dual citizenship in Pakistan.
