National Merit Scholarship Corporation names 8 award winners

MADISON – In its first disclosure of 2023 winners, National Merit Scholarship Corporation has named the first round of recipients of Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarships.

Subsequent announcements on June 7 and July 10 will identify additional students.

Corporate sponsors provide National Merit Scholarships for finalists who are employees’ children, who live in communities that the company serves or who plan to pursue college majors or careers the sponsoring business wants to encourage.

Students can renew most of these awards for up to four years of college undergraduate study. They are eligible for annual stipends ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 per year. Some awards provide a single payment between $2,500 and $5,000.

These Madison students received the Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship:

* Anna Claire Murphree — Westminster Christian Academy. Probable career field: software engineering. National Merit Leidos Inc. Scholarship. Headquartered in Reston, Va., Leidos is a global technology solutions leader that works to solve world challenges in defense, intelligence, homeland security, civil and health markets.

* Cam N. Nguyen – Bob Jones High School. Probable career field: medicine. National Merit Boeing Scholarship. The Boeing Company supports these scholarships annually for employee’s children as part of the company’s comprehensive aid to education program.

* Lilian Qu – Bob Jones. Probable career field: computer engineering. National Merit Siemens Scholarship. Funded through Siemens Foundation, the scholarship program supports higher education to honor exceptionally talented high-school students.

* Pranav N. Ramesh – Bob Jones. Probable career field: medicine. National Merit General Dynamics Corporation Scholarship. Headquartered in Falls Church, Va., General Dynamics has leading positions in business aviation, information systems, shipbuilding and marine systems, along with land and amphibious combat.

* Soorya N. Ramesh – Bob Jones. Probable career field: medicine. National Merit General Dynamics Corporation Scholarship. General Dynamics employs approximately 50,000 workers worldwide. The company sponsors Merit Scholarships as a demonstration of its commitment to employees’ well-being.

* Joshua L. Stover – Sparkman High School. Probable career field: healthcare. National Merit Boeing Scholarship. Employees’ children are eligible for this corporate scholarship.

* Caleb S. Stubbs – Home school. Probable career field: law. National Merit Leidos Inc. Scholarship. The 32,000 employees of Leidos support vital missions for government and commercial customers.

* Jonathan L. Yang – Bob Jones. Probable career field: computer science. National Merit Siemens Scholarship. Siemens Corporation produces and markets electrical and electronic systems, instruments and components for medicine, science and industry.
