Planning a family vacation or need to check dates? Consult the MCS calendar

MADISON – With the start of a new year, families in Madison City Schools can double-check dates for the 2021 spring semester, along with the complete listing for the 2021-2022 school year.

To access the MCS calendars, visit madisoncity.k12.al.us. Click the “Calendars” menu. In the “Calendar” section, click “School Year Calendars.”

“We’ve had several reports of people using Google searches instead of the Madison City School website and finding old links to draft calendars that were simply giving the school board options to choose from,” MCS Public Relations Manager John Peck said. “The official school calendar, once adopted (by Madison Board of Education), is always posted under the ‘Calendar’ tab of the MCS website.”

Now that classes resumed on Jan. 5, 2021, the district will observe Martin Luther King Day as a holiday on Jan. 18. A collaborative day is scheduled for Feb. 12, and students will report for a half-day. Schools will be closed on Feb. 15 for Presidents Day, thus giving a long weekend off.

Following the end of the third nine-weeks period on March 12, the school population will enjoy Spring Break 2021 on March 15-19. Another collaborative day is planned for April 23.

April 26 has been designated as a weather make-up day, if needed.

Graduation Day for Bob Jones and James Clemens high schools will be conducted on May 17. May 26 will be the end of second (or spring) semester, and students will attend classes for a half-day – their last day of the 2020-2021 school year.

Faculties will return for a teacher workday on May 27, but students will not report to school. The Memorial Day holiday falls on May 31 in 2021.

For the 2021-2022 school year, teachers will report to Institute Day on July 28, followed by days for professional development and workdays on July 29-30 and Aug. 2-3. The first day for students will be Aug. 4.

MCS will observe Labor Day on Sept. 6. The 2021 Fall Break is scheduled for Oct. 4-8. Classes will not be in session for Veterans Day on Nov. 11. Teachers and students will observe Thanksgiving holidays on Nov. 22-26, while other employees in the district will be off on Nov. 24-26.

Winter holidays for students will run from Dec. 20 through Jan. 3, 2022. Teachers will return for a workday on Jan. 3, 2022.

Remaining holidays in second semester 2022 will be Martin Luther King Day on Jan. 17; Presidents Day, Feb. 21; and Spring Break 2022, March 14-18. High school seniors will graduate on May 16. The last day in second semester for the 2021-2022 school year will be May 25.
