HUNTSVILLE – Sigmatech Inc. has received a $57.4 million contract from the U.S. Army for development, operations and maintenance support of Aviation Element Simulation.

The awarding organization is the System Simulation and Development Directorate (SSDD) at the Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC) with the Department of the Army, Research, Development and Engineering Command.

The contract will support the directorate’s requirements to enhance and maintain its current suite of aviation element modeling, digital simulation, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) and prototype development facilities, Sigmatech Communications Director Lisa Cox said.

Services will be performed onsite at Redstone Arsenal and other locations as required. The contract’s performance period is one year, with four additional one-year options for a total of five years.

“Sigmatech’s history supporting AMRDEC began in 1987 with our founder and chairman Dr. Gurmej Sandhu working with (the directorate) in radar technology development,” Sigmatech program manager and vice president Steve Cayson said.

Cayson views the contract as “a great opportunity to work with (the directorate) again and support their efforts in the development of cockpit simulators, immersive virtual environments, fixed-wing aerial vehicles and aerodynamics technologies.”

As prime contractor, Sigmatech will enlist subcontractors to leverage existing capabilities, explore future capabilities, develop complex interfaces and maintain digital simulation and prototyping facilities. Sigmatech’s team will develop, test, field and maintain these facilities.

Sigmatech’s team will use various simulation and development activities to assess warfighter requirements for war games, exercises and training events, systems engineering requirements for concept analysis and element requirements for element integration.

“Sigmatech is looking forward to supporting (directorate) requirements for aviation modeling and simulation,” Sigmatech CEO Joseph Bergantz said. “We’re looking forward to working with them to support their important mission and priorities.”

Founded in 1986 and headquartered in Huntsville, Sigmatech provides technical, management, training and e-learning products and services to government organizations across the United States.
