Board congratulates custodians, athletes

MADISON – At its regular meeting on April 6, Madison Board of Education recognized a deserving set of employees and a talented group of students.

Liberty Middle School “made a clean sweep of custodial awards” at the school board meeting, John S. Peck said. Peck is Public Relations Manager for Madison City Schools.

“Not only did Liberty custodian Gary Johnson win the ‘Cleanest Custodial Closet Award’ from among all 11 schools in the district, Liberty Middle School won the school district’s ‘In-site Assessment Healthy School Award’ from being deemed the cleanest overall,” Peck said.

Director of Operations Patrick Conner and MCS Superintendent Robby Parker honored the custodial staff at the board of education meeting. Conner and Parker noted how these staff members at Liberty exemplify the hard work of many dedicated employees whose work deserves recognition.

The custodians are Lynn Crutcher, Nancy Hutchins, Gary Johnson, Carl Smith and Yong Wood. Liberty Principal Nelson Brown also took part in the awards ceremony.

In other recognition at the meeting, Madison Board of Education congratulated the Special Olympics Basketball Team from James Clemens High School. The team recently was victorious in winning the state championship.

The team finished 15-1 for their season record. Roderick Reynolds and Shannon Humphrey coach the Jets Special Olympics Basketball team.

Players who participated in the state championship were Casey Butterfield, Jamarion Clay Caudle, Devin Lever, Jessie Malone, Ayden McCrary, Andy Payne, Preston Skipworth, Henry Trammell and Crystal Webb.

Dr. Brian Clayton, Principal at James Clemens High School, led the ceremony to honor the team at the board meeting.
