MADISON – Once each year, students in fine arts in Madison City Schools collaboratively amaze, entertain and inspire the community with their talent. The 2013 Spring Arts Festival is May 2.

The art festival will be staged in and adjacent to Zompa Auditorium.

Vocal performances start at 4 p.m. with the Columbia Elementary School Chorus in the small gym. This lineup continues with Madison Elementary School at 4:30 p.m. and Mill Creek Elementary School at 5 p.m. Guests can peruse artwork by elementary and Discovery Middle School students, led by Raquel Spiegel, in the gym vicinities.

The Bob Jones Drumline and Winter Guard will present their exhilarating floorshows in the main gym at 6 p.m. Leigh Thomas is drumline director. Nichole Murray sponsors the guard and led this year’s program, “Welcome to the Attic.”

“Artwork from Art I will include still-life drawings and their first portraits. Art II will exhibit self-portraits. Paintings from Art III and Advanced always have a variety of mediums and projects,” art teacher and festival coordinator Robin Lakso said. Katelyn Craft and Jennifer Norton also teach art classes.

Also in visual art, several ‘installation’ pieces will be shown that have been featured throughout Bob Jones recently. “The Vans Custom Challenge Shoes will be on display,” Lakso said. Art will be on display throughout auditorium hallways.

Bob Jones PTSA will meet briefly in Zompa Auditorium at 6:20 p.m. The Fifth and Sixth Grade Honor Chorus will join Bob Jones choral students at 6:30 p.m. Randall Fields is chorus director.

Fashion design students from Discovery and Bob Jones will present their creations and award-winning projects in the lobby area. Kristy Wheeler teaches these classes.

Drama students are in final preparation for their spring production and will not perform. However, technical theater students of B. Dwayne Craft and Mary Davis will be working behind the scenes to assist the festival.

Admission is free.
