MADISON – From lantana to lilies and food to fuschia, the 29th annual Spring Plant Sale and Festival at Huntsville Botanical Garden is expanding with more activities this year.

“More than you can imagine!” is the 2016 slogan, event chair Faye Wishik of Madison said. “The festival atmosphere will include food trucks, music, vendors, a raffle and greeters to help guests find their needs.”

On April 14, the sale is open only to Huntsville Botanical Garden members from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Then, the sale is open to public on April 15-16 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and April 17 from noon to 5 p.m.

“Quality and selection will continue to be paramount for the plant sale,” publicist Lois Grey said. “The variety of plants, wildflowers, herbs, trees, shrubs, vegetables and native plants will provide the best selection for gardens throughout Huntsville and the Tennessee Valley.”

Plant experts and Master Gardeners will test soil samples and answer questions about topics like landscape planning and container arrangements. A session for children’s gardening will spark interest in youngsters about the enjoyment of nature and watching flowers and vegetables grow.

The festival will offer adult seminars. Food trucks will sell tasty concessions to enjoy on the garden’s grounds. Vendors will sell attractive merchandise, like yard art.

“A variety of speakers, including Peggy Hill from ‘Alabama Gardener,’ Harvey Cotton and Herb Lewis will speak on many subjects from gardening to birds, bees and butterflies,” Grey said. “Children’s activities will feature projects for Lil’Gardeners and the Learning Barn on April 16 when children can pet animals and learn facts about each animal.”

Volunteers will even load plants that guests buy at the festival.

The Garden Guild assists in this annual event.

The garden’s address is 4747 Bob Wallace Ave. in Huntsville. For more information, visit hsvbg.org.
