HUNTSVILLE – The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States, has named Crestwood Medical Center as a 2014 “Top Performer on Key Quality Measures.”

Crestwood’s honor resulted from The Joint Commission’s 2015 annual report “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety.” The study reviews the effectiveness of hospitals and medical centers to attain and sustain excellence in accountability measure performance for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care and immunization.

Crestwood is one of only 1,043 hospitals among 3,300 eligible U.S. hospitals to achieve the 2014 top performer distinction.

“Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care. I commend the efforts of Crestwood Medical Center for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions,” Dr. Mark R. Chassin said. He is President and CEO of The Joint Commission.

Crestwood CEO Pam Hudson said that patients most value “the quality and safety of the care they receive. That is why we have made it a top priority to improve positive patient outcomes.”

“Crestwood is proud to be named a Top Performer as it recognizes the knowledge, teamwork and dedication of our entire hospital staff,” Hudson said.

The Top Performer program recognizes hospitals for improving performance on evidence-based interventions that increase the chances of healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions.

The Joint Commission reviewed measures for these patient conditions:

* Heart attack, heart failure and stroke.

* Pneumonia.

* Surgical care and venous thromboembolism.

* Children’s asthma and perinatal care.

* Inpatient psychiatric services.

* Immunization.

* Tobacco treatment and substance use.

Crestwood has been recognized as a top performer for four consecutive years. In past years, The Joint Commission evaluated Crestwood’s performance for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.
