Fantasy Playhouse’s Summer Camp gives stage time in Madison, Huntsville

MADISON – If your child is already asking about what to do during summer vacation, look no further than summer camp sessions at Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater and Academy.

“Get ready for non-stop fun at our full-day summer camp offerings. Learn the magic of Broadway, become a superhero or supervillain, and discover a happily ever after,” Education Director Candice Cooper said.

“Our campers will have a blast while learning popular dances and songs. They also will learn different elements of theatre. Campers are divided into age-appropriate groups,” Cooper said.

One session, “Encanto,” currently is waitlist only.

“We can’t wait to see what next season has in store for us. We couldn’t have accomplished it all without you, your support, our cast and crew and volunteers,” Cooper said. The season schedule will be announced on April 1 at “Rocket City’s Got Talent!”

For 2022 Summer Camp, Fantasy Playhouse is offering all new programs in full-day or half-day sessions, along with Performance Showcases.

Four weeks of full-day camps are available. Each week will focus on a theme to inspire daily activities. Students will work on different elements of theatre including acting, voice, movement, dance, musical theatre and improvisation.

Advanced Musical Theatre Showcase is a two-week intensive program. Aspiring actors will gain stage experience by working on a musical. Actors will showcase their talents in a fully developed production at Bob Jones High School. Class size is limited.

Another two-week program, Young Musical Theatre Showcase lets youth work on basic elements of staging a play. Actors will perform a short scene before the Advanced Musical Theatre Showcase at Bob Jones.

Affectionately described as “boot camp theatre,” Teen Acting Showcase is an exhilarating combination of theatre training and stage experience, Cooper said. This program requires discipline and focus and is an exciting challenge for any young actor. Actors will perform on-stage at Bob Jones.

This year’s performance showcase categories are age-appropriate:

* Advanced Musical Theatre Showcase — Roald Dahl’s “Matilda the FMusical Jr.”

* Young Musical Theatre Showcase — “Winnie the Pooh Kids”

* Teen Acting Showcase – “The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet”

Campers can choose from several weeks of different sessions. Three- through 12-year-olds can extend their experience to a full day by taking a morning and afternoon workshop. Campers in full-day programs can bring their lunch for a supervised time before afternoon camp. (Avoid foods with nuts.)

Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater & Academy’s address is 3312 Long Ave. in Huntsville. Zompa Auditorium’s address at Bob Jones is 650 Hughes Road.

“Summer is the best time for forming friendships, exploring plays, and growing as an artist,” Cooper said.

Campers also can stay in before- and after-care for Fall Break and Spring Break performance camps and Summer Camp. Contact Cooper for prices.
