Community Chorus to open season with "The Sound of Music"
Record Managing Editor
The Col. Edward Zompa Auditorium at Bob Jones High School will come alive with the sound of music as the Madison Community Chorus opens its 2003 season on Feb. 28 with its production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "The Sound of Music."
Performances by the chorus are scheduled on Feb. 28 and March 1 at Butler High School in Huntsville, and on March 7-8 at 7 p.m. and March 8 at 2 p.m. at Bob Jones High School.
The show, based on the true story of the von Trapp family and their escape from Austria during Hitler's rise to power, is a powerful political commentary as well as a wonderful story of love, God, family, and country. Among the melodies to be performed are such favorites as Climb Every Mountain, Eidelweiss and My Favorite Things.
Tickets are now on sale. The cost is $18 for standard seating and $22 for premium seating. Students and seniors will receive a $2 discount. Groups of 15 or more may receive a 10 percent additional discount. For the Saturday, March 8 matinee performance only, tickets for children 12 and under are $12 each. No discounts will be applied to the special matinee children's price.
Starring in the production will be Tina Wassell as Maria; Jon Noles as Captain von Trapp; and Ellen Williams as the Mother Abbess. Holly Dale, Wyatt Eppinett, Carrie Daniel, Emily Edwards, Cole Lindsay, Madison Shaw, and Travis Roddy will play the parts of the Von Trapp children. Reuben James will play the part of Rolf. Also featured will be Dale Worley as Max and Christian Gunner as the Baroness.
Tickets may be purchased by calling 316-0521 or 316-0522. Tickets are available at Shaver's Books in Huntsville for the first weekend and at Mulberry Street in Madison for the second week.
