Bob Jones sweeps Sparkman to advance in playoffs
MADISON – The Bob Jones Patriots rolled into the playoffs and took down rival Sparkman at home with a Friday double-header sweep.
The Patriots bested the Senators in the first game 4-2 and followed that up with a 4-0 shutout to advance to the second round of the playoffs next weekend.
Bob Jones will face the winner of the Thompson vs Spain Park series.
In the first game, the Patriots were led by starting pitcher Braden Booth who went seven innings where he allowed two runs with three hits, three walks and 10 strikeouts.
Booth also had a 2 for 3 day at the plate with an RBI while the Bob Jones catcher Zach Johnson also had two hits in the victory with an RBI.
The Patriots hit the ground running in the second game of the day with the series victory in sight with two runs in the top of the first inning.
Those early runs would be more than enough for the dominant Bob Jones pitcher Tanner Hermesch who went the distance allowing just one hit with three walks and 13 strikeouts in the series-clinching game over Sparkman.
