St. John's students collect food

By Staff
The student body and faculty at St. John's Catholic School in Madison is collecting food for the needy.
For the next few weeks, the school will conduct a food drive to collect a variety of food items and keep it stored at the school until the end of April. On May 1, the church volunteers of St. John's Catholic Church, St. Vincent De Paul, will distribute the collected food items to the needy in the Madison area.
Leading the food drive is the school's Student Government Association. Since the food drive began on March 3, several hundred foods items have been collected. For each item collected, the school will receive 50 cents per item from the Hungry Free America organization.
The money will be used for school-related needs.
To get the food drive under way, a theme was given to each day of the week last week, beginning with Help Human Beans on Monday, King Cake Tuesday, Washing Wednesday, Corny Thursday, and Fruity Friday. During the next two months, the students will collect the items each Friday and turn them over to St. Vincent De Paul.
