MADISON – For the first time, the James Clemens Jets wrestling program held a “senior night” on Jan. 27 recognizing the veteran wrestlers for the varsity team.

Three wrestlers – Colton Williams, T.J. Edwards and Peiter Clark – had their name called before the tri-dual match.

“I’m going to miss being with the team and everything, but I’m still excited for tonight,” Clark said.

Edwards, who competes in the 182–pound division, has accepted an athletic and academic scholarship to St. Catharine College, a private Catholic college in central Kentucky, where he will continue his wrestling career.

Clark plans to go to some sort of military preparatory institute, “maybe Marion Military Institute,” in order to get into the United States Coast Guard. Williams is hoping to enroll at the University of North Alabama.

Edwards’ grandmother, Charlotte LaRue, was on hand to see T.J. be honored as a senior.

“He’s come a long way,” LaRue, who lives in Huntsville,said. “I’m very proud to call him my grandson.”

In the spirit of inclusiveness, team manager Meg Besaw, who’s held the position with the Jets wrestling team for the past three years, was also honored on senior night.

“It’s really cool that they did that,” Besaw said. “It makes me feel like I’m part of the family.”

Besaw, who keeps track of all the scoring for the team and is responsible for other miscellaneous duties, plans to attend either Auburn University or the University of Mississippi.

The team has a couple of matches left on the season before the Super Sectionals in Birmingham the weekend of Feb. 6. The top four varsity teams from that tournament will advance to the State Tournament at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.
