Katherin Dorothy Janssen September 16, 1961 – May 4, 2015

Katherin Dorothy Janssen, age 53, of Madison, Alabama, passed away on May 4, 2015. Kate was born in Huntsville, Alabama, and graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a Bachelor of Arts degree. On January 16, 1988, Kate married Paul Janssen and Kate and Paul have one child, Helena. Kate was the founder of Madison Children’s Theatre and was active in the arts community all of her life. Kate touched many lives with her compassion and love of teaching the arts. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas G. Miller.

Survivors include her beloved husband Paul and daughter Helena, her mother, Dorothy Miller; her mother-in-law, Nel Janssen; and her siblings, Karen Cothran, Krista Day and Kurt Miller.

Visitation was held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2015 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, 2320 Bob Wallace Avenue SW, Huntsville, Alabama. A graveside service followed at 2 p.m. at Madison City Cemetery, on Mill Road just west of Madison City Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Kate’s favorite charity.
