HUNTSVILLE — The Huntsville Police Department released additional information today on a three-car auto accident Nov. 27 at the intersection of Bob Wallace Avenue and Mobile Drive that left one man dead.

Dexter Brandon II died after striking two separate vehicles traveling west on Bob Wallace Avenue at approximately 7:30 p.m. The crash shut down Bob Wallace for about two hours while HPD investigated the incident.

According to Lt. Michael Johnson, public information officer for HPD, Brandon was driving the at-fault vehicle east on Bob Wallace when he began to enter the center turn lane. He then struck a pickup truck driving west on the same road in the driver’s rear side, which spun the truck 180 degrees and sent it into oncoming traffic from the east.

Subsequently, Brandon’s car struck another car, this time a red Toyota Camry also traveling west, Johnson said. Brandon’s car struck the Camry head on, causing his own car to burst into flames, trapping him inside. The driver of the Camry was also trapped.

The driver of the truck was able to aid himself and called 911 before rushing to help Brandon and the other driver. He was able to pull Brandon from his vehicle first and move him away before helping the other driver out of her car.

While the driver of the Camry was conscious and talking following her rescue, Brandon was neither conscious not breathing. The truck driver performed CPR as paramedics headed to the scene. Brandon was taken to the hospital but later died of his injuries.

The Camry driver likened the truck driver to Santa Claus for his assistance.

“It is believed that if not for the life saving attempts from [the truck driver] that Mr. Brandon would have been trapped inside his burning vehicle and [the Camry driver] may have suffered more injuries,” according to information from HPD.

The names of the surviving drivers involved have not been released.

Johnson said there will be no criminal charges in this case.
