MADISON – It’s less than a month away, the Madison Street Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, in Madison’s historic Downtown.

The festival is a celebration of the people, art, food, and music of Madison and is the city’s largest event, bringing neighbors together for a day of celebration and fun. Kicking-off with a big, colorful parade, the festival includes Artist Alley, a car show, children’s area, entertainment, expo area, arts & crafts, information booths, and of course . . . great southern food.

This year there is a new way for festival-goers to have fun — by dressing up as a cow. That’s right, a cow. Madison is taking a second stab at setting the world’s record for the most people dressed as a cow in one place.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the current record holder is a town in Western Australia called Cowaramup. Participants broke the record with 1,352 people young and old dressed as cows at the Cow Muster during the Deja Moo Country Fair on July 12, 2014.

The city attempted the record last year at Dublin Park, but a rainy start hindered the attempt and it fell short. Hundreds stilled turned out for Madison’s first Chick-fil-A-sponsored “Fun Fest and World Record Attempt”, which has organizers excited about this year’s prospect.

The world record break attempt will be held 2 p.m. in the festival’s teen zone.

Leading up to the attempt, the Street Festival will include performance stages that will feature some of the best in local entertainment. An expanded children’s area welcomes plenty of activities and rides for the kids. Vets with Vettes will be hosting an open car and bike Show again this year.

The Madison Street Festival has been recognized as one of the top 20 fall festivals in Alabama. With hundreds of vendors, artisans and performers, the MSF has something for everyone, including gourmet food trucks.

Several aspects of the day-long festival are in the final stages of preparation in anticipation of entertaining several thousands of visitors.
