Mustangs’ Destinee McGhee Signs Scholarship With Arkansas

MADISON- The Arkansas Razorbacks women’s basketball team has signed one of the top class of recruits in the country and includes Madison Academy Class 5A All-State player Destinee McGhee.

The 6-foot-2 senior center signed with the Razorbacks at a recent ceremony at her school and dedicated her signing to her father who passed away. “Today would have been special for our entire family and I know he’s here in spirit,” said McGhee.

A three-time All-State selection was a four-star prospect and averaged 19 points, eight rebounds and two block shots per outing for the Lady Mustangs, which finished runner-up at last year’s State Tournament losing in the finals by three points. She was rated the No. 66 recruit in the U.S. and committed to the Razorbacks a year ago and chose the Southeastern Conference school over both Arizona and North Carolina State.

“Once I arrived at Arkansas on my visit I fell in love with the campus, the players and coaches,” said McGhee. “Especially the campus. It felt like home.”

Arkansas head coach Mike Neighbors has scoured the country for top players, thus pulling in one of the top classes according to most experts.
