Local nonprofit One Generation Away is sharing free groceries with anyone in the community who would like to receive them.

The food assistance organization runs a Mobile Pantry — a series of pop-up food distributions — throughout North Alabama. On Saturday, January 27, the Mobile Pantry is setting up in the parking lot of Discovery Middle School at 1304 Hughes Road in Madison.

“Every time we are able to come together as a community to support one another is a blessing,” said Chris Whitney, founder and CEO of OneGenAway. “It’s incredible how small interactions with your neighbors can brighten up your day. Of course, this is about food, but it’s also about the opportunity for neighbors to let each other know they’re not alone.”

The Mobile Pantry will provide a shopping cart full of fresh produce, pantry staples, baked goods, dairy, and more to each person who drives through. No paperwork or registration is required to receive food — all you have to do is show up.

Food distribution will begin around 9 a.m. and continue until about 10:30 a.m. or until all the food is gone. Volunteers are encouraged to arrive at 7:30 to help sort and distribute the food. No registration is required to volunteer.
