Brown presents concert, master class

HUNTSVILLE – Lyrique Music Productions will present “Jason Robert Brown – Back in Madison County” on June 25 at the Von Braun Center Playhouse.

Brown has won three Tony Awards, including the 1999 Tony for “Best Score” with “Parade.” Brown has proven his skills as a composer, lyricist, conductor, arranger, director and performer.

Brown is best known for musical scores, including “The Bridges of Madison County,” “Songs for a New World,” “Urban Cowboy,” “Honeymoon in Vegas,” “The Last Five Years” and “13.”

Concert time is 7 p.m. Tickets for center seats are $60, or regular seating at $50.

In addition, Brown will present his “Master Class” at 11 a.m. on June 25 in the playhouse. Brown will spend the afternoon with six local artists during this special one-on-one session.

“During this three-hour session, Jason Brown will intimately work with actors and singers on traditional music theater repertory. He will focus on improving musicality, clarifying dramatic choices and understanding song structure,” Luz Ladrillono said. Luz and Robert Ladrillono own Lyrique Music Productions.

“Join, listen and learn during this special and rare opportunity,” Luz Ladrillano said.

Lyrique actors and veterans with performance credit in the past five years were eligible to apply for the Master Class. Brown personally selected the actors to participate.

Applicant actors submitted a required essay documenting reasons they deserved to participate, their resume, publicity photographs and three possible song choices to rehearse during the session.

Madison residents qualified for the Master Class. Kayla Braxton, a senior at James Clemens High School, has appeared in Lyrique’s “13” and “Legally Blonde – The Musical” and James Clemens productions of “Metamorphoses” and “Little Shop of Horrors.”

Savannah Graner also will participate. A 2013 graduate of Bob Jones High School, Graner is studying at American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in New York City and appearing in NYC productions.

Audience tickets for the Master Class from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with $15 general admission.

For tickets, call 256-417-0593 or visit lyriquemusicproductions.org, Facebook/LyriqueMusicProductions or Twitter @LyriqueHSV.
