Bob Jones recognizes basketball seniors

MADISON- Its a wrap. The regular season ended with a bang Thursday night as Bob Jones girls and boys got a final tuneup for area tournaments. The girls turned in one of their best games of the season and won 53-34 over Buckhorn. The boys played a close game but Buckhorn pulled away to a 68-61 win.

The boy’s got a win against Decatur last week then ended the season with 2 straight losses. They now go into the area tournament to play Sparkman and try to extend their season.

Fours seniors played their last home game; Devontae Mason, R.J. Trousdale, Jonathan Moss, and Sean Goodman.

“They have done a good job,” said Bob Jones Head Basketball Coach Graham Aderholt. “They have hung in there with us. We’ve practiced hard all season. Now we’re just trying to prepare for that one game.”

Two years ago Aderholt led the team to the elite eight, within one game of Birmingham. He is confident this team can get back.

“Devontae has been shooting the ball well. I’m proud of him for how hard he has worked. He is now reaping the benefits for how hard he has worked,” Aderholt added.

The seniors got extra playing time. Trousdale had his best game of the season with 10 points. Mason continued his strong play scoring 19 one night after scoring 28 against Florence.

Bob Jones led early and was up 16-9 after one quarter. Buckhorn surged scoring 22 in the second quarter. Bob Jones got as close as 52-51 on Mason’s three but Buckhorn pulled away.

The girl’s go into the area tournament with momentum and are getting great play from Tyler Fredricks who averaged 12 points and 8 rebounds on the season. She has offers from Lawson State, Gadsden State, and Snead State.

“It was bittersweet being our last game at Bob Jones,” Fredricks said. “We all came in together, all the seniors and Coach Reynolds. Chemistry and the bond is there. We are going to come ready to try to get a win against Sparkman.”

It has been five years since a Bob Jones girls team has made it to Wallace State in the Northwest Regional.

Other senior girls players are Ari Alexander, Jayla Crump, Kiera Gurley, and Aniya Jones.

The girls area tournament is at Hazel Green next Tuesday. Bob Jones against Sparkman is the second game of the evening.
