Holidays open with Fantasy Playhouse’s ‘A Christmas Carol’

HUNTSVILLE – Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater & Academy will open the holiday season with its yearly tradition, “A Christmas Carol.”

Now in its 33rd year, the production of the family favorite is a new adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” by Huntsville local, Cherie Evans, and based on the work of Charles Dickens. The audience can travel through the past, present and future with the miserly Mr. Ebenezer Scrooge, three Christmas Spirits and whimsical characters of London town.

With more theater magic than ever before, this Charles Dickens classic will delight all ages as an inspiration to keep Christmas in our hearts all year long, according to Emily Rodrick, Marketing/Public Relations Manager for Fantasy Playhouse.

“With more theater magic than ever before, “A Christmas Carol” will delight all ages as an inspiration to keep Christmas in our hearts all year long,” Rodrick said. “Productions are two weekends only, starting Dec. 1 through Dec 10 at the Von Braun Center.

“A Christmas Carol” is set on Christmas Eve, when Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by a series of ghosts, starting with his former business partner, Jacob Marley. Then, the Ghost of Christmas Past, Ghost of Christmas Present and Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come show Scrooge the ways that his behavior has affected people around him.

By the story’s end, Scrooge is relieved to discover that he has time to reform. The ghosts lead to his change of conscious.

Dickens wrote this story in 1843, when a tradition existed to read ghost stories at Christmas. As a result, “A Christmas Carol” focuses on the three ghosts. Themes of wealth and injustice clearly criticize the disparities of a caste system in Victorian England. (bbc.co.uk)
