In a key region matchup against Decatur, Bob Jones started fast and did not let up until late in the game. By that time the Patriots had posted a 24-10 victory to run their record to 4-2 and 3-1 in region play.   

Bob Jones wasted no time as the offense clicked on the first drive. Bob Jones head coach Kevin Rose rolled the dice and went for it on 4^th down and seven from the Decatur 35-yard line. Kevin Wright took a pass over the middle and broke several tackles on his way to the end zone. 

The defense got the ball back when Dustin Haraway made a stop in the backfield on fourth-and-one. Later in the first quarter Kevin Wright broke free again and ran 60 yards up the middle for his second touchdown of the game. David Mitchell kicked the extra point for a 14-0 lead. 

“I wanted to work on my run game tonight,” Wright said. “I wanted to read my blocks faster and hit the hole faster. We came out with a lot of intensity to play fast and get up on teams quick. The whole offensive line is doing a great job.” 

Mission accomplished for Wright who finished with 76 yards rushing on 10 carries and caught 3 passes for 76 yards.    

Bob Jones added another touchdown in the second quarter when Jay Rogers scored on a 33 yard run and the Patriots were up 21-0 on a stunned Decatur team.  

Decatur started the scoring in the third quarter with a field goal but Bob Jones answered back on a 37-yard field goal by David Mitchell later in the quarter. 

Several players stepped up on defense for Bob Jones. A week after missing a game due to a concussion, Nick Holman had a sack and a forced fumble on a fourth down play late in the third quarter. Julian Lewis had a sack late in the game as Decatur got the ball back after scoring a late touchdown and then recovering an onside kick. 

Overall, the defense held Decatur to 60 yards rushing while Rogers alone had 136 yards   rushing on 23 carries, the fourth time this season he has gone over 100 yards rushing. 

Dominating first half play is becoming a habit for Bob Jones. Last week the Patriots led Huntsville 27-3 at the half. 

“We’re starting fast and finishing drives and getting points.” head coach Kevin Rose said. “Our defense is getting three and outs and giving us good field position. We need to do a better job of finishing games once we establish that lead.” 

Bob Jones goes on the road next week to play long time rival and region opponent Sparkman. 

“Sparkman is a rivalry game,” Rose said. “They are really talented athletically. Tim Gillespie is a really good football coach and they will be all gassed up with us coming over there so we better be ready to go.”
