The American voice

From The Publisher

The Fourth of July is a wonderful holiday to celebrate in Madison.

It’s another time for us to honor and remember the people who sacrificed all for our independence and freedoms. Our freedom was earned, and it continues to be earned today.

Through the brave men and women that serve our country, state and city, we are able to share our opinions without fear.

We witnessed a decision this past week that has caused a lot of discussion in Madison and across the state – removing the Confederate flag from the state capitol.

This change was caused by our American voice.

The Madison Record encourages our readers to share opinions through letters to the editor and our Facebook page.

Mark McMillen posted on The Madison Record Facebook page regarding the Confederate flag removal decision, “It’s the right decision. The only correct place for any flag of the Confederacy is in a museum.”

Tony Anderson added, “That capital was the first capital of the CSA. Jefferson Davis was inaugurated on it’s [sic] steps. If the flag must go, maybe they should demolish the building as well lest anyone take offense.”

Let’s continue to recognize the price paid for the right to be heard.

The Madison Record wishes everyone a safe and wonderful holiday.
