Madison Academy Girls Win Basketball State Championship

Birmingham- The Madison Academy girls basketball team won its second consecutive Class 4A State Basketball Championship with a 56-43 win over Deshler (33-3) at the AHSAA Final Four in Birmingham. Jaden Langford, named the tournament MVP, scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the win for the Lady Mustangs (29-7). Damayia Calvert scored 12 and Jasmine Gracie added 11 in support.

The M.A. boys team fell in their attempt to secure a state title losing a heartbreaker to Cordova 56-54. The Mustangs (24-12) led the game most of the way and had an 11 point lead in the third quarter, but Cordova surged back for the win. Cordova (25-9) hit two free throws with four seconds left and blocked the potenial game tieing shot at the buzzer to secure the victory.

The Mustangs were led in scoring by Luke Thomlinson (15), Calvin Bacon (14) and Calvin Walker (11)
