Heroes’ Week guests receive warm welcome reception from local community at HSV Airport

MADISON – It was a hero’s welcome at the HSV Airport Wednesday afternoon. A crowd gathered to welcome some special guests for the 13th Annual Heroes’ Week in Huntsville, Nov. 6-12.

The Semper Fi Community Task Force (SFCTF) of North Alabama is hosting 59 total guests: wounded or injured service members and their spouses or caregivers. They represent all five branches of the military and have come from all over the Country to enjoy a week of relaxation and recognition.

The guests were honored with welcome ceremonies at the HSV Airport and the Westin Hotel. While here they will participate in a Veterans’ Day breakfast and parade, the Marine Corps Birthday Ball, a parade of boats on Lake Guntersville, an aerial tour of North Alabama, as well as numerous lunches and dinners hosted by local organizations and businesses. They will also visit and speak at local schools.

“Heroes’ Week provides a unique opportunity for the Tennessee Valley/Northern Alabama Community to show its deep appreciation and recognition to these men and women for their humbling sacrifices while defending our Nation and the freedoms we enjoy each day,” said Jennifer Holliday with the Semper Fi Community Task Force of North Alabama.

Guests were welcomed Wednesday at the airport by local community and military leaders as they walked through a flag line established by the Patriot Guard Riders. Students from local schools were also there to welcome the heroes.

A small ensemble from Liberty Middle School’s symphonic band played for the welcome ceremony. They were joined by the LMS Choir, Student2Student representatives, and history classes to celebrate as the group of veterans arrived.

Following the ceremony, the guests were given a full escort to the Westin Hotel at Bridge Street led by local law enforcement officers and followed by the motorcycle groups, clubs, and individual riders.

Along the way they were met with signs of support from first responders, including local firefighters, and the local community. Upon arrival at the Westin, the guests received another warm welcome.

The Semper Fi Community Task Force is a non-profit organization composed of dedicated representatives from all services, their families, and community friends.
