Students win National Merit Scholarships sponsored by colleges, universities

MADISON – Several Madison students have won College-Sponsored Merit Scholarships.

National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced more than 3,300 winners of National Merit Scholarships that U.S. colleges and universities are financing. Officials at each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.

To compete for Merit Scholarship awards, semifinalists first had to advance to the finalist level by fulfilling additional requirements. Each semifinalist submitted a detailed scholarship application, including an essay and details about extracurricular activities, awards and leadership positions.

Semifinalists also must have outstanding academic records, endorsements and recommendations by a high school official, and SAT or ACT scores that confirmed the qualifying test performance.
