Ice Breakers Heat Up For Local Indoor Track Athletes: James Clemens Post No. 2 Mark In U.S.

BIRMINGHAM- The New Year has brought exceptional performances in high school track as local schools fared well at the recent Ice Breakers Track Meet held at Birmingham’s Metro CrossPlex.

James Clemens posted three first-place performances while Bob Jones added one.

For the Jets of James Clemens, the highlight accomplishment was secured by the boys 4×200-meter relay team which posted the second best time in the country with a time of 1-minute, 29.96 seconds to win the event by two seconds over second place Vestavia Hills. The star-studded foursome included seniors Ephraim Rolingson and Manny Sanders along with juniors Keenan Hill and Chad Coulter. The Sparkman Senators placed third in the relay event with a time of 1:34.73.

Additional top performances for James Clemens included seniors Willie Campbell in the boys triple jump and Cadence Huntsinger in the girls similar competition.

Meanwhile, Bob Jones gathered in one gold medal effort as senior Hannah Thuss took the girls 3200-meter run and a third place finish in the 1600-meter event.

The Ice Breakers was broken down in five different overall events to accommodate all of the participating teams. Bob Jones took part in event No. 4 while both James Clemens and Sparkman participated in the No. 5 gathering.

Willie Campbell, 12, James Clemens, 42-05.75, 3. Kendall Russell, 12, James Clemens, 41-05.25; Shot Put- 2. Jaylen Drake, 10, James Clemens, 43-07, 3. Michael Poe, 12, Sparkman, 43-06.25.

Girls: 60m- 2. Janae Hilliard, 10, Sparkman, 7.85; 60m Hurdles- 2. Cadence Huntsinger, 12, James Clemens, 12, James Clemens, 9.50; High Jump- 3. Lily Melton, 9, James Clemens, 4-10; Triple Jump- 1. Cadence Huntsinger, 12, James Clemens, 35-04.50.

For Bob Jones, Boys: 60m Hurdles- 3. Tyler Pitts, 12, Bob Jones, 8.45; High Jump- 2. Cosey Scarebrock, 11, Bob Jones, 6.06; 1600m- 3. Hannah Thuss, 12, Bob Jones, 5:37.71; 3200m- 1.
