Two arrested for capital murder for Jan. 9 shooting

HUNTSVILLE – Huntsville Police said Wednesday they have arrested two suspects for capital murder following a shooting earlier this month on Sparkman Drive near Mountain Park Circle.

Terrell Otey, 18, and Sorrel Gill, 19, are both charged with capital murder in the shooting death of Mekhi Douglas, 21.

According to Huntsville Police, they received a call about a shooting at Sparkman Drive and Mountain Park Circle on Saturday, Jan. 9. When officers arrived, they found Douglas lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound. HEMSI pronounced him deceased at the scene.

Major Crime Unit Investigators said they learned the shooting stemmed from a drug transaction.

Officers arrested Otey earlier this week on Monday, and Gill was taken into custody by officers on Wednesday.

Both men are in the Madison County Jail without bond.
