Madison schools closed Thursday due to weather, roads are a “slushy mess” this morning

Madison City Schools will be closed Thursday, Feb. 18, due to the poor road conditions after last night’s snowfall. Madison Police said roads are slushy and slick this morning. They advised limiting to traffic to emergencies only.

Madison County District 2 Commissioner Steve Haraway also advised motorists to use extreme caution if they have to be out this morning.

“The roads are covered in a slushy mess right now. Some of the major roads have one lane open that you can travel on,” Haraway said. “The secondary and neighborhood street are still covered in snow. It’s melting slowly and we are trying to plow it off of the major roads and then start on the secondary streets. If you don’t have to be out stay where you are and let this melt this morning. Midday should be much better. Be safe and allow enough room for stopping.”
