MOULTON- The James Clemens cross country program brought home four trophies for finishing among the top three teams in each of the four divisions at the 11^th annual Pepsi Challenge. The Jets took first place in boys varsity, second place in both girls varsity and boys Jr. High and third place in girls Jr. High.

The varsity boys won its second consecutive event of the 2021 season placing five runners among the top 10 to score 36 points and defeated Scottsboro who had 39 points. Sparkman High finished No. 8 with 204 points scored. The five top Jets also set a school record with only 15 seconds separating the fabulous five. Those in the top 10 included 4. Dylan Dryer, 16:50, 5. Luke Alverson, 16:51, 8. Brexton Hathaway, 17:03, 9. Tyler Gohlich, 17:03 and 10. John Luke Stovall, 17:05.

In girls, Lawrence County was the team winner scoring 37 points while the Lady Jets placed runner-up with a 40 points. Sparkman was fourth with 102 points on the day. James Clemens placed six runners among the top 15 and were led by No. 5 Sydney Freeman, 20:10, No. 9 Makenzie Parker, 20:43 and No. 10 Emma Bothern, 20:43.

In Jr. High division action, the boys 2-mile race was won by Andrew Gohlich of James Clemens with a winning time of 11:44, which was also a personal best for the student-athlete. Fourth place was taken by Will Davidson who also posted a personal best of 12:18. Ethan Brewer placed seventh at 12:34. In team scores, Scottsboro won the division with 35 points while the Jets were second with 44 points.

In girls Jr. High, James Clemens placed third with 80 points behind Scottsboro’s first place score of 23 points. Individually, Sparkman’s Isabel Jones finished runner-up with a time of 13:57.34 while Clair Colo of James Clemens posted a personal best time of 14:58 for seventh place.
