UAH Set to host Charger Chillout at Sand Mountain Park Friday through Sunday

ALBERTVILLE – The No. 23 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team is set to host the 2023 Charger Chillout, presented by Marshall County Tourism & Sports, at Sand Mountain Park this Friday through Sunday.

The Charger Chillout features 17 Division II teams for a total of 46 games across the three-day slate.

UAH starts off the Charger Chillout with two games on Friday against Kentucky State at 12 p.m. and Trevecca Nazarene at 2:30 p.m. The Chargers will play once on Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by contests on Sunday against Ohio Dominican at 10 a.m. and Kentucky Wesleyan at 12:30 p.m.

The Chargers opened the 2023 campaign in the Sunshine State last weekend, as the squad split a doubleheader on Nova Southeastern on Friday before taking both games at Barry on Saturday. UAH is 3-1 entering this weekend’s five-game slate.

Sophomore Lawren Hayes had a stellar start to the 2023 campaign, as she leads the Chargers with a .667 batting average (10-for-15) to go along with five runs, one double, one triple and four RBI.

Head coach Les Stuedeman received a few strong pitching performances in the opening weekend as the Chargers own a 2.33 team ERA. Both Katie Bracken and Bib Jones grad Megan Shurtz tossed complete games over the four-game span for their first wins of 2023.

After this weekend’s games at Sand Mountain Park, UAH returns to the Rocket City for a doubleheader Wednesday against North Georgia at Charger Park at 1 p.m.
