Traffic was snarled from time to time last week as a road construction crew resurfaced heavily traveled Hughes Road, from Mill Road to Madison Boulevard. After the resurfacing material sets for two to three weeks, the construction crew will be back to apply permanent white and yellow lines. It will take the workers a couple of days to finish up, Jo Ann Somers, Madison city engineer explained. Somers said the Hughes Road improvement project cost the city approximately $160,000. The Madison business district portion, north of Old Madison Pike was also resurfaced as part of the project, Somers said. In addition to road resurfacing, "A drainage problem was corrected out near Kroger. Standing water had caused surface deterioration," she said. Somers doesn't expect to have to resurface Hughes Road again for five or six years.
