Watson, Putt receive military awards
The University of North Alabama Department of Military Science and area agencies and groups recently presented many awards to the Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC) cadets.
Cadet Justin Watson of Madison received the Army superior cadet and physical proficiency ribbon, ranger challenge team ribbon; color guard ribbon and the silver medal athlete award.
Justin Putt of Toney received the Military Order of World Wars bronze award and the color guard ribbon.
"We are proud of the quality of cadets produced by this program which has been in existence at UNA since 1949," LTC Fred V. Manzo, Jr., professor of military science and commander of the Lion Battalion said.
Holmes is commissioned Navy Ensign Dennis L. Holmes, Jr., son of retired Army First Sgt. Dennis L. Holmes of Harvest, was recently commissioned upon graduation from the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) program with Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Unit, Prairie View A&M University at Prairie View, Texas.
During college, Holmes completed naval science courses and academic courses that fulfilled degree requirements. These courses, combined with annual summer training aboard ships and shore installation, served to prepare NROTC graduates for the intellectual, mental and physical challenges of a commissioned officer.
Holmes joined the Navy in August 1995.
